Try Again

Illustrated cover for Try Again, a FITZ4JAX children’s civic-learning story

Chapter 1

Maya wanted to ride her bicycle all the way around Friendship Park, but on her first try she wobbled and stopped. Her grandfather reminded her that courage is not getting everything right the first time. Courage is taking a breath, checking what happened, and trying one careful step again.

Chapter 2

The next morning Maya practiced beside a painted line while her neighbors cheered. She learned to look forward, keep both hands steady, and ask for help when she needed it. Each small improvement became proof that patience can turn frustration into skill.

Chapter 3

Soon another child arrived who was afraid to begin. Maya did not laugh or rush him. She shared the same advice her grandfather had given her and walked beside his bicycle until he felt safe.

Chapter 4

By afternoon, both riders could circle the park. They discovered that winning did not mean leaving someone behind. The happiest part was helping each other reach a goal that had seemed impossible that morning.

Chapter 5

At home, Maya wrote three words above her desk: pause, learn, continue. She used them when homework felt difficult, when a game did not go her way, and when she needed to apologize and make a better choice.

Chapter 6

Jacksonville grows stronger when young people know that a setback is not the end of their story. Keep learning, keep helping, and try again with hope. Together, we create a city where perseverance has a place to grow.
