FITZ4JAX CHILDREN’S CIVIC-LEARNING COLLECTION

Lift Your Teammate

Illustrated cover for Lift Your Teammate, a FITZ4JAX children’s civic-learning story

Chapter 1

Jordan missed the final shot and expected everyone to blame him. Instead, his teammate Nia offered a hand and said the game belonged to the whole team. One moment could teach them, but it did not define any player.

Chapter 2

At practice, the coach asked everyone to name one thing they could improve. Passing, communication, defense, and encouragement all appeared on the list. The team learned that accountability works best when it is honest and shared.

Chapter 3

Nia practiced with Jordan after school, and Jordan helped another teammate with footwork. Their gym became a place where effort mattered more than embarrassment and where asking for help was treated as strength.

Chapter 4

The next game was close, but the team stayed calm. They talked, trusted the plan, and celebrated every useful play. Whether the scoreboard favored them or not, they were becoming disciplined people who could handle pressure together.

Chapter 5

Afterward, the players volunteered at a youth clinic. They discovered that leadership is not a title or a trophy. It is the decision to make the people around you safer, stronger, and more confident.

Chapter 6

Jacksonville should give young people access to sports, arts, mentors, and healthy places to belong. Lift your teammate, respect the rules, and remember: a city wins when its people help one another rise.
